THE HOUSEL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
DESCRIPTION
Floyd & Betty Housel were residents of Lexington from 1929 until they passed. They were graduates of Lexington High School in 1933 and 1937, respectively. Their children, also LHS graduates, were active students of Lexington High School. Diane graduated in 1961, Cathy in 1964, and Thomas in 1967. Both Floyd and Betty donated their time and financial support to charitable and community events. They truly cared about the Lexington community and gave back in any way that they could.

The Housel family has established a scholarship to help Lexington High School graduates pursue post-secondary education. One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be Lexington High School graduate who has demonstrated academic achievement as well as an extra-curricular activity, athletic, and/or community involvement during his/her high school career. Financial need is not a criterion for this scholarship.

Criteria:
• Academic Achievement: A minimum of an A/B average or better is required.
• Extra-Curricular Activities: An applicant must have held at least one office or chairmanship in an extra-curricular activity during his/her high school career. Extra-curricular activities shall include school-approved activities.
• Athletics: Participation on an athletic team, including cheerleading or dance team, for a minimum of two years or having been awarded a varsity letter will meet the minimum requirement.
• Community Involvement: Participation shall include membership in any non-school-related organization in the community. For example, community activities would include church, Masonic, 4-H, Scouts, fund-raising [e.g. walk-a-thons], Plum Creek Days, United Way, etc.
• Leadership: The applicant should have held at least one position of leadership in a community activity during his/her high school career.
• Overall Contribution: The applicants must have demonstrated their ability to achieve individual as well as group goals and objectives. The successful applicant will have demonstrated achievement and/or leadership deserving of special recognition, at the discretion of the Selection Committee, in one or more of the criteria.

Up to $5,000

AWARD DISBURSEMENT
Funds will be sent to the Office of Financial Aid and the student’s school of choice. Additional requirements may be needed for payment.
